Located on the surface of an uninhabited planet known as Xaeprea, deep within Beta Quadrant, Haumea Colony holds many wonders for the budding scientist, the intrepid diplomat, and the wandering adventurer. As a joint venture between Starfleet and the Federation's many civilians, there is a bounty of opportunities for those who wish for a change of pace and a chance to take a piece of what could be a brand new lifestyle!
Haumea Colony is a Star Trek roleplaying simulation set in the year 2397, and is a member of Obsidian Fleet. Here, we try something a little different; player involvement not only through simulation play, but also through overall plot input. On Haumea, we strive to give players a chance to actually help mold the storyline, working together with the Staff so that everyone is having a good time!

Hello! This one should be relatively short!
We did so great last month with our numbers! There were a lot of words and we reached over 20 posts! That's a LOT for six people! Like, a lot a lot! I'm super proud, and I'm especially proud of our mission briefing post, which should be thrown up for Post spotlight... once I remember to do that!
Let's keep trucking!
Before I let it go too much longer, we're losing long time member Becca for a variety of reasons. It's sad to see her go, but if she ever wants to return, I don't intend to let Haumea go too far. It's not like I can change Xaeprea's orbit or anything. Kekeke!
But we have our scientist! I'm chaining this one to the desk too, Paul can't go anywhere! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
I've begun initial planning stages of Mission #5, titled 'Roll With It'. It'll take me a major amount of time to figure out, and if we decide we need time between Mission 4 and 5, I'll throw us a good developmental in-between period. There'll be stuff, but we've done so well with this one so far that I want to keep the momentum one way or another.
Thank you, and happy children finding!

Good after-morning!
It's been quite a whirlwind of the past two months hasn't it? With all of us getting the lead out post-holiday season, I'm sure we're all raring to write in some form or another. I know I sure am!
While this update comes a bit late, I want you all to know that I've been real happy with how we're trucking along. Hopefully come March I can pull the lead out of my other shoe, but there's a snag I've hit in the form of a bad laptop battery that might put me out of commission for a short period of time. More on that in the discord.
With everything moving as swimmingly as I'd hoped, I'm moving towards planning our next mission. I have not given it a name, and while I do not want to spoil a whole lot, there will be three major goals within the mission. Each of these mission goals, in the form of story arcs, should give players options about which direction they want to take during the mission's timeline duration. As this will be highly experimental for myself and for Haumea in general, I ask that feedback be given (as always), and an open mind about it all.
No, despite what I've asked in the discord, no one will be rolling die to see what their character does.
The update this 'month' is going to be a little short, and I did just want to go ahead and state that I can't wait to see what we can do in 2021. I hope we just bust it right out of the park!

Hello all! Below is our Obsidian Fleet Monthly Report, if you'd like to take a gander:
We did pretty well, and thank you to all who pushed through posts and helped out to make sure we were in good standing and to help us shuffle through Equivalent Exchange! Great haul!
Now, onto the news for our coming month:
1. So, as expected, I'd like to end Equivalent Exchange's open posts ... post-haste! Anything that is just started or has been stalled because of elections, busy lives, etc, can easily be dumped over to Frizzle or into our not-during-missions mission, which has a long name that I don't remember, but it's the only one I don't talk about so you should find it in the mission drop down. If there are posts you would like to have take place within Equivalent Exchange specifically, I suggest you finish them up and post them before ... eh, we'll say the 9th or the 10th. Or whatever time after that I actually close out Equivalent Exchange. We will all aim for the 10th, how's that sound?
2. A not-so-pleasant announcement, I am going to be going through this month and requiring some form of activity out of you all. I dislike hard requirements and hard activity checks because I believe in being big on communication, but sometimes I have to 'bust a nut' so to speak. Now! I won't require a bunch of posts or a personal log or anything out of you, but I will request one of following occur at some point this month:
- One post at post length minimum (500 words) or longer.
- Bunches of activity on the discord in terms of plotting and helping us get the plot moving and writing started!
- One conversation to myself, via discord, email, or private message on the site, about why neither is feasible this month with some form of proof/promise/something that you'll be able to shape up when you're out of the busy season/period in your life. I don't need details, you can say 'family business' and I'll understand.
I understand this period of time has been extremely hard on all of us in one way or another, and I'm not trying to be a monster over this. However, if you do find you cannot continue to write for the forthcoming future, that's quite alright! I'll deactivate the character so someone else can fill the shoes, and when you're ready to return, we can have that conversation.
I will note most everyone is just fine in activity in some way shape or form and I'm not saying anyone is doing anything wrong. I'm just making sure we're all on the same page.
3. Now that that's settled, on to more exciting things! I am not certain how many of you are familiar with Nanowrimo, but for those who aren't, I'd like to propose a sort of challenge for Haumea. Let's make November our big writing month. For Nanowrimo, the goal is 50,000 words for a budding novelist or someone who just wants to get the juices going in their work. How about we try to hit that goal of 50,000 words collaboratively? To make it easy, any post that's posted within the month of November will count towards an overall goal of 50,000 words. This includes personal logs, joint posts, solo posts, posts in any of the currently open missions, or developmental posts for your character. Technically I should be utilizing words that are written in November, but I don't want to overcomplicate anything more than I do.
I know it seems like a big endeavor for us, seeing as we've had a rough summer as a site, but I think this might be the kick in the pants we all need. I'll be rallying the troops via discord, so if you'd like plot ideas, need NPCs, or anything of the like, please let myself or your fellow members know!
4. Finally, I would like to call your attention to our outlying plots. Most specifically, the plots involving the Io's investigation, the arrival of our Marines, and the USS What the Heck is That Called. I've gone ahead and tied up the last of these plots, naming the Merian the USS Atala after Anthony Atala, who's work is currently making strides in the field. I've also gone ahead and added another manifest to our list, which is rather barren right now, but it will consist of the (ALL NPC'd) regular crew of the USS Atala. As Frizzle doesn't quite deal with the Atala at the moment, it won't see much action this time around, but it gives us a chance to develop it a little more.
In terms of our Marines: For clarity's sake, and because I talk so much I forget who I've told what, Marines are indeed going to take residence on the Colony. They'll have their own barracks and all that. I am extremely finicky about Marines, and because of that I'm leaving David in charge of their overall development. This will also shift Lt. Colonel Shaun Bradley into a sort of Executive Officer role. sort of. There isn't a better name for what we have in mind, but it's plot related. Promise we aren't usurping the whole command structure! That being said, Lt. Commander Koplo will be shuffled off by the end of Equivalent Exchange, as was the plan when we made the plan muahahahaha!
The Io investigation, which was all but forgotten the whole of EE, will be left as a cold case on the departure of Lieutenant Theordore Winslow. He was the man in charge of the investigation, and after the fiasco, Captain Mahone will want the case dropped so that everyone can focus on other matters.
Any questions or concerns about these or other plot topics, please direct them to the discord so I can answer in as real-time as possible.
Phew! That was a long-ass update! Thank you for bearing with me on that, as most of those points did need to be mentioned. Once again, we had a great month and I'm hoping November is an even better one!

Good eves to October, everyone!
With the end of our year upon us, I want to take a moment pause to inform everyone that this simulation has been running for the better portion of two years now, and I could not be more pleased with that information. Yeah, there have been plenty of snags, but we're still here! Go team us, and here's to another whole year of Haumea!
This all being said, September and October are going to be super busy for us here as we move onward. I am going to need everyone's help to bounce us from Equivalent Exchange and into our new mission, Frizzle, which sees the colony's denizens facing a new kind of temporal threat, if you catch my meaning.
I'm updating the images and mission planners as we speak, and while I'm excited to bring it all to you, I want to make sure it's as it needs to be. You'll have to settle for the image on the front page for now. There's going to be a lot of work being put into Frizzle on the back end for this to work, and I want this mission to begin somewhere mid to late October because it's a spooky spooky mission!
That does mean that Equivalent Exchange needs to be wrapped up. There are a thousand and nine plot points we didn't get to that I'd like to continue, so don't think I'm leaving anything by the wayside. In the coming few weeks, I'll have a few solo posts out detailing what's going to occur to get the main plot point (The Titania) out of orbit and all that that entails. Plot points involving Romulan refugees will still be brought up during the mission, but it may be beneficial to continue it into the next one so we can keep hard at work at it.
I'll be asking in the discord for everyone's help to wrap up plot points and clear out as many posts as possible between now and mid to late October so that we can get to a point where it feels like we're not just tying up loose ends. It might be a delayed reaction, but I think we're beyond ready to move onward.
Thank you much and here's to next month!

Hello hello! Apologies for the late as heck update, but here we go!
- First off, our monthly report is in as usual and we're doing fine (we'd know if we weren't!) Link is below for those who haven't already taken a look.
https://www.obsidianfleet.net/sim-report/haumea-colony-august-2020/
- Once more, welcome to our newest members who joined in August. We're happy to have you, and you're more than welcome to start up as many posts as you'd like with whomever you'd like. Don't be shy!
- For something a little less positive, I'm coming around to some of you for activity checks. I've spoken with and addressed activity issues as they come intermittently, but now I'm going to put my foot down. This is the only heads up I'm going to give people on it.
Now, onto what I'm most excited about: THE NEXT MISSION!
I know we're in throws with this mission right now, but I put up Equivalent Exchange as our 'Covid Pause' Mission that could hopefully give us all something to work on. We've gone through quite a few members through the past couple of months, as well as a couple of storylines, but I'm working behind the scenes now to set up mission number four, with the intention of getting it started either mid to late October. There's going to be a little more action and excitement for this one, so be ready! It is titled Frizzle, titled as such in honor of the late Joanna Cole, author of the Magic School Bus series, but it does have relation to the mission!
And that's the only hint I'm giving... for now! Muahahahahaha!
As always, keep trucking and if you're having issues finding posts or inspiration, or just want someone to talk to, the discord and myself are always open.
May September bring happiness to all,
Shi
