Mission:
Deep Freeze
Location: Haumea Colony Command Post
Timeline: MD 05 : 1500 Hrs.
Lillian walked out of the hospital and straight for the command post, it would be better for her to get past this embarrassing moments sooner than later. Entering the outer office Lillian noticed a Yeoman at the desk, "Good afternoon Yeoman, is Commander Mahone in his office?"
Davna looked up from her work, eyes scanning the woman who walked up with minor critique. "The Commander is in, yes," she said with a similar tone. "But he's a busy person. Can I ask who's asking to see him?"
"Lieutenant JG Lillian James, the new assistant security chief, reporting for duty," Lillian replied as she stood at parade rest in front of the Yeoman.
"New Assistant Chief..." Davna mouthed, quirking a brow. "Oh you must be the officer that the Commander helped pull from that transport earlier. Of course. Well, he's not doing anything right this second, so you might as well head on in."
Lillian unconsciously started to rub her neck at the mention of the location of her embarrassing escapades. "Ah...Yeah, that would be me." Lillian replied. "Thanks, for letting me see the Commander," Lillian said before she walked into Commander Mahone's office.
Inside the office, Lillian stood at attention in front of the Commander's desk. "Excuse me sir, but I"m officially reporting for duty," Lillian said.
"You can sit down." Luka seemed puzzled by Lillian's rather attentive attentiveness, before his wide-eyes relaxed and he realized himself again. "I haven't had time to look over your file since I returned to the office, but I'm sure it checks out. Assistant Chief of Security, right?"
"Yes Sir, it is," Lillian replied, "Um...Sir, I would like to apologize for my behavior in the ground transport. I would certainly understand if you felt the need to file a harassment charge." Lillian said nervously and hoping that he would not feel the need to file a report.
"A what?" The puzzled expression remained as he blinked in confusion. "Lieutenant, if I wrote up a report for every time someone hit on me in my career, I think I would be buried in more of those reports than reports about transfers. It's an unforeseen side effect to being a doctor. Just... Don't do it again."
"Yes Sir, Understood Sir," Lillian replied, relief visible on her face. That whole mess behind her now. "Would you like me to come back after you have had time to read my file, sir?"
Luka shook his head. "No, you're here now. I can read the specifics of your file a little later. Who knows when I'll actually have time to read that. How about you start with telling me what you know about what you're heading into?"
"Not much sir, just that there was a colony that needed an assistant chief of security. I wasn't told about the weather until I was getting ready to come down here," Lillian replied, then said, "I'm curious on what the current situation is."
"The weather was an oversight. Our science labs are not fully staffed and, while the colony has civilian meteorologists, there was not enough time to see the whole..." Luka gestured outside. "But, that's why you're here. For security, mostly, but if there is anything you can do to lend a hand elsewhere, I'm certainly not going to say no."
"I understand sir, I do have some science background and I'm more than willing to help out where I can. Do you know if there is a history of something like this happening here?" Lillian asked, pretty sure that he was going to say no, but she still wanted to cover all the bases.
Making a mental note to add Lilian to the science roster, Luka shook his head. "According to our limited records, no. The people I would ask on this matter are the civilian meteorologists. They have a small team who have been here for the full year the colony's been up and running."
Luka's expression hardened. "Lieutenant, before you manage to get too far onto the Colony, I must ask that you tread lightly. The civilian population has been here for a full year, but we've only been here a matter of weeks. I'd like to maintain a peaceful coexistence, but for now, I want to impress that they have more experience here and they have more authority for the moment."
"Understood sir, I'll tread very carefully. But for now, I should report to Lieutenant Winslow and let him know that I've arrived." Lillian said, she would have to do her own research into the civilians here before she approached them for questions about the weather.
"You should." Luka replied, expression brightening. "Keep yourself safe and warm, Lieutenant, and let me know if you encounter any issues."
"Aye, Sir," Lillian said, and after the dismissal, she walked out of the office.
