Canary

The Landing Facilities had seen much of the Captain as of late. Luka, being the type who insisted upon meeting everyone who was going to work directly under him, made every attempt to create an open environment by being part of as many of the welcome crews as possible. As Haumea was a growing facility, he was finding this task increasingly difficult as time went on. He could hear Davna's chiding noises in the back of his mind, a noise that scolded Luka for being so open and available.
'If they had anything to say to you, they would tell their department heads first,' is what he would always say, before demanding Luka just relax and let Davna take on most of the work.
And Davna. The poor ensign ran herself ragged, especially after her insistence on taking on another task. But she was so chipper and insistent that he should have the help that he decided to stop saying no.
Today was another matter. With no Starfleet arrivals or departures for the day, Luka's visit to the facility was purely recreational. At his side was the white and black fluff of a malamute pup, trotting obediently at his side, stopping only to leap into another mountain of snow the crews had cleared from the tarmac. It had been just over a month since the discovery of the Daucin and the terrible winter, but even with the fairer temperatures, it looked as if the snow was not going to let up. Luka was content to let the pup play in the snow, if only due to the lead he kept a grip on that would dutifully tell him exactly where the the mischievous pup had dove headfirst into.
As he waited for Lugh to emerge from the newest snowpile, Luka caught sight of a young woman not far off, one he had not seen before. Her uniform was certainly not the typical golden Starfleet Operations uniforms he had become accoustumed to, but she looked busy and important to the operations of the facility.
"Excuse me!" he called out, before taking a quick look to the hole Lugh had buried himself in. He shook his head, looking back toward the woman. "Excuse me, do you have a moment?"
“As long as it is a moment,” the woman replied shortly. “Unless you want to help me track down 5 cases of Andorian ale, for Sumi’s?”
This would not be the first time someone decided that they were in a mood around Luka, and he expected it wasn't going to be the last. "Did you happen to check the bar? Aarav tends to appear on site to make sure the delivery is what he insists on."
“If he has got his shipment, then it should have been signed off with us,” Jess huffed. “But thanks for the tip. What is it I can do for you mr?”
"Mahone. Luka Mahone." Before he could go on, a muffled 'ruff!' came from the pile of snow, and a head emerged. Shortly after, Lugh the pup leapt from the snow, trotting right up to the pair while covered in the fluffy, white stuff. "... And this is Lugh. We were just taking a little walk."
