Mission: Terrorpin
Location: Multiple Clicks North of Haumea
Timeline: Multiple Days Prior to the Mission

For the small creature, the morning started like any other.

Sneer at frozen lake. It would typically have been underneath all of that ice, where it would have been napping until the Melt. A good feeling. Nice feeling.

But that feeling would not be. Not when there were new things to explore. The creature saw the strange bird shortly after the first big thaw. The bird was only strange because it opened up its belly and had other animals inside. Big animals, but not as big as the bird. They were odd, pale-toned things that looked different from one another. The creature kept it's distance, even when a smaller, furry thing came running out of the bird on its four legs, making loud noises similar to the predators that surrounded the lake.

The creature, at that point, kept its distance.

Soon after came more birds. And more two-legged animals. Not so many of the four-legged predators. The two-legged animals seemed intent on creating something near the beach the creature called its home. But they were bigger; the creature would need to find another home. Still near the lake, but not close enough to the strangers that the creature would have to share its home with.

But still, it kept its distance.

It was not until the rocks that the creature's curiosity got the better of it. One warm night, the creature noticed lights and sounds coming out of the rocks that the two-legged animals had built over the nice sun and the hot sun. But the creature saw no two-legged animals outside that night. They were all inside the rock, which till this point the creature thought was impossible. Rocks had more rock in them. That was why they were rocks.

But the creature, it made its way across the water, ignoring the bumps from any other creature that warned it to stay away. All the creatures in the water knew; the two-legged animals poked and prodded. There was no pain, but the animals were after something. Most of the creatures did not want to know what it was.

This creature did.

It left the safety of the water of the lakeside home, making its way closer to the biggest, brightest, and loudest rock. It could hear the sounds inside. Something melodic, like the sounds of nature around it but... more. And it could hear the calls and cries of the two-legged animals inside. But there was something else radiating from the rock. Something... appealing. Alive. The closer the creature got, the more it wanted to know... what was so enticing?

There was a hesitance; predators did like being enticing. Maybe they had more of those four-legged predators to feed, and shell was on the menu. Shell and meat. But there was a stronger pull still.

A smaller rock next to the big, light-up rock caught the creature's attention as it toddled by. The warmth that radiated from the smaller rock attracted it closer, like a ray of nice sun on a rock. But there was no sun; happy warm, but no sun. The creature knocked its beak against the surface of the rock. It was hard like one, but not lumpy like one it had ever seen. It was straight, and shiny. And warm-warm. It knocked again, this time a little harder. But as its beak left the rock, the creature noticed the small dent. The rock was not so straight anymore.

Its head recoiled in confusion, before something possessed the creature to keep hitting the rock with its beak. Soon, the dent was much bigger, and the creature felt the warmth from the other side of the rock. Was this rock hollow too? And something smelled like the little bugs it ate in the water. It would not be long before the dent turned into a hole, and the creature was pulling itself inside.

And the light! The rush! Warmth everywhere! The energy the creature felt, it was nourishing like the small bugs, but there was no need to eat anything to receive it. Did the two-legged animals know how to use the bugs like it did? Maybe this was their food supply.

But it felt good. And the creature needed more!
