Cap-napped!

1,093 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Pressure
Location: Unknown
Timeline: Unknown

The past twenty four hours blurred by Luka. First, he was enjoying a night of relaxation, answering messages and appeasing pets. He even let himself relax with a long-awaited taste from a bottle of unknown alcohol; something Admiral Matthews had gifted him months prior. But the as the liquid's familiar effects started to set in, he was attacked. Something was thrown over his head and all he remembered were the sounds of Noodle and Haechi's distress. Then, quiet. Darkness.

His fears were assuaged momentarily when he awoke to a familiar hum of a warp core. The realization took another beat to wash over him, and he was sitting upright and squinting at the room surrounding him. Empty. Cold.

Unknown.

It wasn't a brig, or not one he had ever seen. There was usually a forcefielded 'window' that would open up to the rest of wherever he was. But it didn't look or feel like a holodeck either. No projector panels, no console. No nothing.

Just. Nothing.

His haze was interrupted by the sudden dog nose in his face. Young as Haechi was, she was much more cautious than Lugh had been in his pup period. And was more active in her care about Luka's well being. “Hey there girl, it's alright,” he whispered soothingly, pulling her close into his lap. She whined, pawing gently at him. “I don't suppose you happen to know where we ended up, hm?” He asked, taking the moment to examine her for injuries. All he found were splotches of blood all over her fur, but thankfully, she did not seem hurt. “You did good, girl.”

It took a beat for Luka to get Haechi settled in their mysterious prison, but once he did, he took the moment to pat himself for major injuries. Last thing he remembered, he was facing off against someone with a knife. How that person got in, he had no idea. Very few people had access to his cabin without him knowing about it, but he was fairly certain Cornelius would not have brandished a knife and proceeded to actually stab him with it.

Alika might have out of some unknown motive. Shaun might have in an attempt to ready the Captain for assassination attempts or something odd.

But, as he patted his body down for signs of said stabbing, he found nothing. No blood, or even the lingering pain of it being patched up. There was simply… nothing.

“... I wish I could say this was the weirdest thing I’ve been through,” Luka mused, ruffling the top of Haechi’s head. Weird as it was, he was certain of one thing; whoever kidnapped him did not want him dead. Or at least, not yet.

BZZZZT! One of the walls of the room lit up with a soft, blue glow. Across the surface, a darker blue circle pulsated in the center. Then, a voice echoed throughout the room. ”... They didn’t leave your dog behind did they?”

Luka’s gaze looked down to Haechi. The dog was alert with all the new hubbub to focus on, but her eyes were on Luka. She was waiting for a sign. “I mean, she’s here isn’t she?” was all he could think to say.

”That is not going to work. I’m sending her back.”

“Wait-” Before Luka could get his mouth open, a similar blue glow enveloped Haechi, and in another electronic buzz, she was gone. A knot churned in his stomach, and his gaze met the circle on the wall. “She better still be alive.”

”Never fear, Captain. Your dog is going to return to your reality and time safely.” There was something about the voice that seemed familiar, despite the fact that it was masked through some form of filter. Luka tilted his head. ”She’s gonna be more safe there than you’re gonna be here. I’m just not into animal cruelty like that.”

Luka’s brow furrowed, slowly standing from the floor. There was an irony to the fact that he was in this situation, and it was an irony he did not wish to live again. “What do you mean?”

”I’m not into any animal cruelty, to clarify. But you already know that.” The circle pulsated out a rainbow of colors as the disembodied voice went on. ”See, in any era, being that unethically cruel to any form of being is not the way I’ve learned to live my life-”

The Captain’s realization cut through the voice’s train of thought. “So I know you.”

Silence, but only for a beat. ”Well, I fucked up. That’s alright. You’ll find out who I am soon enough. And who I stand with. But now, we’ve got something to show you.”

The wall’s glow, and the other three darkened walls around it began to dissolve around Luka. As it did, the view of San Francisco was revealed. A dark skied, apocalyptic version of San Francisco, but it was the same city all the same. Who could miss the view of the ever-present Golden Gate Bridge? “Oh ha ha.”

While he did not hear the return zip of the disembodied voice, there did come a reply. In the form of something cold and hard pressed against his back and the electronic gurgling of a Breen soldier behind him. His brow furrowed, but all the same he slowly lifted his hands up. He was unsure of how else to react, or even what was going on.

The last of the strange room disappeared with a pop, and suddenly Luka was met with the sight of a number of fallen red and yellow shirted Starfleet members. None of whom he recognized, all of whom had likely stopped breathing well before he materialized from a room. His nose scrunched up at the stench of death that filled the air, something he was sure his new captor would not have been able to smell.

But before he could get any clarity on the subject, the discharge of a phaser filled the air, and a burning sensation tore across his back. The last thing he felt before he hit the ground was his skin tingling with an electrical pulse, and a feeling of dread.

He was going to have quite a lot of unpacking to do with Sofia if this all turned out to be a bad dream.
