As the door swished open, Luka was greeted with quite the sight. At the Captain's chair sat the young Orion yeoman that Captain Matthews had earlier recruited to act as the Executive Officer's personal assistant. The vibrant-haired woman bounced a couple of times in the seat, before her eyes snapped upward to meet Luka's confused gaze. "Sir! Come test out the Captain's new office chair."
"Ensign Davna..." Luka began, with an exhasperated sigh and a tired gaze. He had maintained a reasonable amount of calm with the bouncy woman, but tonight he had other matters to attend. "Please tell me Captain Matthews didn't actually take up the Coucilwoman Macae's offer."
The Orion woman nodded enthusiastically. "Yes he did! They should be back any moment to retrieve you and continue the festivities. I believe Captan Matthews was concerned that you were working too hard and needed a break." She tapped the PaDD that sat upon the desk, giving him a happy hum. "He also said you'd ask about his reports. They're turned in, he made sure to look over them before Petty Officer Willis put the seal on."
Luka approached the desk that his yeoman was sitting at, shoulders sinking and cool demeanor dropping as he picked up the PaDD, examining its contents. Sure enough, the Captain had signed off on all his work for the day. "... Did he tell you to keep his chair warm, Ensign?"
"Yessir!" Then came a pause, as Luka continued to scan through the reports. Davna wiggled in the Captain's chair, eyes alight with her idea. "If... you don't want to spend time with the Captain and the Councilwoman..." she began, drawing a small circle on the desk in front of her with a finger. "I do know how to brew a good pot of tea..."
His attention turned, gaze softening as it rested upon the eager, young ensign. "I believe my morning tea is plenty, Ensign." He watched as Davna's shoulders sagged. As a small gesture, he made an attempt to console her. "Don't we spend time together enough?" He asked, voice softening. "I'm sure you see way too much of me throughout your day."
Davna's brows furrowed and her lips pursed. "Sir, I don't see you nearly enough. You're never in your office, and you're always doing work on the go. It's so very hard to get you to sit down, or follow after you. It's like you're running from something."
Eyes blinking in surprise, Luka frowned. "Ensign, I have a lot on my plate, most of which jobs that the colony needs in order to complete it's-"
"Construction on time. I know, Sir. You've mentioned it before, a number of times in fact." Davna crossed her arms over her chest. "And Captain Matthews gave me explicit orders to make sure you relaxed, something you have not done since you stepped foot on this ship. And I know you don't plan on stopping." And, before Luka was able to open his mouth to protest, Davna held a finger up. "Sir, I must put my foot down, before I voice my concerns to the Captain. And we both know you don't want that."
Despite the behaviors Ensign Davna displayed, Luka let out the breath he had been holding for a few seconds, relieved. Tucking the PaDD under his shoulder, he gave a reassuring smile similar to one he used to give to his patients. "I will promise to relax -" He held a hand up at the sight of her opening her mouth again. "-in the privacy of my own room, once I've made sure everyone's reports are in." She deflated at the sound of that, as if he had popped her tiny, hopeful bubble. Through his lurch of guilt, he gave her a small wave of his hand, pretending as to not have noticed. "But I should be on my way now. And you, you should probably not stay here if I intend on disappearing before the Captain returns."
After a beat, Davna's expression turned serious, and she sprung from her seat. "Don't worry, Sir. I'll make sure I'm nice and hidden. Just for you."
"Good." Luka turned, retreating for the door. "And I'll see you in the morning."
