Mission:
Roll With It
Location: Captain's Office, Command Center
Timeline: MD - 02: 1412 Hrs
T'was a peaceful afternoon. Between their little crash-landed stowaway and placating parents that they would never again allow field trips until everyone was certain that children would not be in harm's way, Captain Luka Mahone had found a moment of solitude. All he had to worry about was the newest pup to his home, a 2 month old husky by the name of Haechi.
Luckily, he brought Lugh along to both appease the larger dog and play big brother to the smaller puppy, a decision that afforded Luka the moment he desired, as the two dogs were in a small pile of sleepiness and fur.
So, with late lunch in hand, Luka took to sitting at the small side table he had for such rare moments. It was only him, and sandwich, and the medical journals he had yet to catch up on for company.
"Sir."
Luka looked up from readings on the surgical differences in prefrontal cortexes within the species of the Federation and to the sudden appearance of the Science Hologram that stood before him. While Graham had been, for the most part, confined to the science labs, Luka made a point of giving the program access to both his and the CMO's office areas, on the off chance an emergency arose. It was a protocol that Luka all but forgot until this point, as there had not been a need to alert the Captain of anything immediately.
The sight of the hologram had the Captain's stomach turn. "Is everything alright, Graham?"
"Yes Sir," the hologram concluded dully, making a motion to the PaDD Luka currently held, "But you told me to report as soon as I had the analysis of the tachyon particles we scanned from the adolescents and Lieutenant Commanders Nikedoros and Bray. And with the conclusions we have drawn, I found it more prudent to alert you in this way."
Luka settled, but only long enough to read the information that appeared on his screen. "... We're sure about this?"
"Yes Sir. Lieutenant Commander Bray is doing another analysis of the area they were in, just in case the tachyon readings were inaccurate, but she and her team have done the investigation multiple times."
"Well shit." Luka put the PaDD down, looking back toward his desk, "Alert Commander Bray that she and her team are to leave as soon as they have the information they want, and I'll send word to Lieutenant Zažeckis to put up extra security in that area to get access restricted." He gave the hologram a cursory look. Holograms always skeeved him out. "Thank you, Graham."
Luka stood, already forgetting there was a half-eaten sandwich with his name on it. Later, Lugh would get at it before the Captain remembered he even had lunch made.
But, as Luka made for his desk, he heard the flicker of Graham's holographic image; the program had yet to leave. "... Is there something else?"
"Yes there is." Another wave, and Graham had placed more information into the Captain's PaDD, "Lieutenant Commander Bray informed me you'd want to see this."
Luka's eyes flickered back down to the device, and his head tilted to one side. "Didn't initial teams designate that planet as uninhabitable?"
"They did, Sir. But one of the probes sent to a neighboring planet diverted when they picked up readings of a breathable atmosphere and signs of life. Lieutenant Commander Bray had reason to believe we should send a team down; there is a fifty nine percent chance that there is evidence of a civilization that may have lived on planet."
"I'll... take it into consideration. Thank you, Graham."
"Of course, Sir. Shall I go inform Lieutenant Commander Bray of your order?"
"Please do."
As Graham's image faded, Luka let out a breath. There was never going to be a dull moment, was there?
