The Admin buildings looked like most prefabricated federation buildings of the day, almost as generic as it could get Derick reflected upon entry into the main reception area he stopped at the reception desk, he looked at the almost uninterested junior officer sitting at the desk "Can I help you?" he said and an almost uninterested tone.
Derick looked at the junior officer "Lieutenant Irvin to meet with the Captain." he said
"Sorry sir, we don't normally get officers this time of day." the Ensign jumped too his feet.
Derick wasn't sure what too think, he'd been hidden in a cubicle in an anonymous intelligence building for almost eight years himself, he just pressed the proper keys on the small pad he was passed and walked past the security gate. Navigating the halls wasn't too complicated as he found the command office fairly fast, he pressed the door chime and waited.
The door swished open, but not because Derick pressed the button. Instead, there was an annoyed Bolian on the other side, holding in her hands a mostly emptied basket of produce. She brightened at the sight of the man. "Oh, hello there-" her eyes darted down at his collar. "Lieu-tenant? Lieutenant. Welcome to the colony!" And before Derick could react, a full purple cabbage was thrust into his hands. "Think of it as a gift," the Bolian added with a wink, "Once my farm is back up and running, there will be more where that came from."
"Uh...' he paused it looked like a native species from earth "Thanks."
The Bolian woman stretched on an overall strap, before stepping aside and walking off. She did drop a turnip next to the on duty command cadet with a curt "thank you", before disappearing behind the turbolift doors.
"Come on in," came a voice from within the office. Deeper in sat Min Seong, rubbing a temple while she was nursing a cup of something warm. She gestured him in. "How do you feel about Romulan teas? I can pour you a cup."
As Derick walked in he took in the surroundings, "Just a half cup please, I'm still on earth time and my internal clock hasn't completely adjusted."
Min made a face. "I warned them when they transferred you to give you a few days to adjust." But her expression softened, as she turned to the nearby tea kettle. As she poured out a smaller cup of tea, she made a gesture for him to sit in the chair on the other end of the desk with her head. "Regardless, it will be good to have someone with Intel eyes on the colony. Did you come in straight from the shuttle, or did you have time to settle in?"
Derick took the tea, "I got here on a transport around twelve hundred-ish local time, there isn't exactly a regular transport from earth here so I had to use an intel transport."
"Oh there shouldn't be one straight from Earth to help prevent the lag that would cause," Min explained. "I would not worry too much about getting to your duties till tomorrow. Our current Intel officer has a couple of days before they're sent off to their next assignment, so you'll have time to adjust. That said, what does bring you here? Colonies don't tend to bring a lot of Intelligence staff based on need, but we've discovered we need at least a couple experienced staff who can keep an eye on things that the rest of us don't have that training for."
Derick set the tea down, "Sounds reasonable, after spending the last seven years stuck in a windowless basement everything is an improvement."
Min blinked twice. "Is that what brings you here?"
Derick smiled, "As with everything in intel, my work group was shutdown and I was put into surplus which usually means reassigned to the first field opening these days, colony assignments are rare so I'll take this as a clean slate start."
"Shutting work down in that department seems to be a common factor," Min pointed out. "But I will say that you won't find yourself without something to do here. We have quite a few mysteries on our plates. Which will be sure to be in a debrief left by your predecessor." Min paused. "So long as you don't mind mysteries that are either time travel...ish... Or mysteriously disappearing..."
"I'd like to avoid the temporal affairs pukes if possible, they give me the creeps." He started "for now I'll just keep an eye on the smugglers and other illicit stuff, the rest I'm sure will unfold as it happens."
Min simply raised her brow. "You may not have a choice in that matter, but I will keep that in mind." She cleared her throat. "But I won't keep you. Are there any questions for me?"
Derick didn't hesitate "No, I think we're good here, it's good to be here." he said starting too stand.
"Then I feel confident in dismissing you and getting you to duty, Lieutenant." Min said, nodding toward the door.
"Thank you sir." Derick said standing to leave.
