Mishaps Through Misunderstandings

Posted on Wed Mar 31st, 2021 @ 11:47am by Lieutenant Akihito Takeshi & Lieutenant Veaya Zai

1,012 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Frizzle
Location: Security Brigs
Timeline: MD 01: 0924 Hrs

There sat Akihito Takeshi, arms crossed against his chest as he stared, annoyed, at the security officer who had him locked in the brig. As far as he was concerned, this was all just a tiny, miniature understanding that he had no hand in whatever security breech they thought had occurred on the USS Atala.

"So when's she supposed to arrive?" Aki asked impatiently. "I've got a lot of stuff to do before this ship is mission-ready."

The young ensign who stared back at him stubbornly shook his head. "She comes when she comes."

"Yeah, well I'm sure once she looks at me, she'll know who I am. Just because my credentials aren't in your system doesn't mean I'm not a Starfleet Officer." Aki could feel his combative nature flaring. "You could call the Captain too... see what he knows!"

"No can do. The Lieutenant told me to stay put, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."

Veaya was curious as she arrived at the security brigs to find out who this person was her had alerted security as being someone without credentials. It was unusual and had been enough to make her hurry. "I am here." She called finally coming into the room tying up her hair and pulling on her uniform jacket as she did.

"Finally!" Aki cut through the young officer's attempts at explaining the situation. "Lieutenant, please help me sort this out. I've got all my information in that little PaDD over there." He pointed at the aforementioned device on the table, where it lay next to a small toolkit and a toy cat. "I don't know how they got this all mixed up, I'm leading the Atala team and I bet I'm gonna be late for my own meeting."

"He claims to be leading the Atala team but he is not appearing on any databases." Th Security Officer spoke up trying to not look too happy that the man had not instantly been let out. Veaya looked at first the toolkit and then held up the toy cat for an explanation from the man.

"Just call the Captain. Or you know, let me out so we can go to the ship and I can prove it." Aki insisted, before his eyes rested on the cat. "You can do a scan of that if you want, it's perfectly harmless. It's for the science officer aboard the Atala. He's never seen a cat so I thought I'd just show him something close to one."

"Let him out."

"Sir?"

"Let him out." She repeated holding out the small PADD to him.

"Thank you!" Aki did not wait long after the field came down to step through. He adjusted his uniform shirt, smile on his face. "Cat's cute, right? Think a Denobulan scientist is gonna like that?"

"Potentially depending on their temperament." Veaya decided frowning. She really did not have time for this type of interaction when she had concerned parents knocking at her door. "So paperwork? Sorry to rush you but i have a bigger issue and will have to lock you back up in there if this cannot be fixed in about ten minutes."

Aki shook his head. "Yeah yeah. We just gotta get to the shuttle pad. Anyone there has a quick link to the Atala." He hovered a hand over what possessions he brought with him. "May I?"

Veaya indicated that he could take them. It was very unlikely he would try anything so she perceived no threat to herself or the crewman hovering around.

Permission given, Aki plucked his effects up from the table. Then he made a gesture toward the door. "Shaaaall we, Lieutenant?"

Veaya nodded and followed him indicating to the Ensign he could stay behind. She was pretty sure that she would be able to deal with anything that came her way easily. If she could not handle one man, she was not a very good security chief then.

Not that Aki would do more than gab her ear off. "How's the colony, by the by? I wanted to see if I could get one of those rooms to stay in so I could visit when I'm not figuring the ship out." He led her down the corridor and out of the Command Center, waving at anyone who recognized him. The number was painstakingly few, which was unfortunate. That would have cleared this mess right up.

"A lot different from the ship but that was to be expected I guess," Veaya replied with a shrug. It was a lot different but it was an experience that she really needed if she was ever going to be promoted or anything. "I am sure once this is all cleared up we can sort out some type of lodgings for you."

"Appreciated, Ma'am." As the doors slid open for them outside, Aki glanced out into the distance, where the flight control tower could have been seen in the distance. "If things hadn't worked out the way they had, I would have probably been grounded to the colony anyways. Having a full assignment out here like this isn't exactly for me. I get all stir crazy, gotta take to the stars."

"Well I suppose with your job it would make sense," Veaya said with a shrug. Security was security no matter where you were. Still, bad people to investigate no matter where you were, colony, ship or base.

Aki gestured for the woman to enter one of large ground transports. "Looks like the teleporter's on the fritz," he explained off-handedly as he stepped in after her. He made small talk with the driver, before they were soon off to their destination. "It makes sense, but you always get those one or two pilots who just miss being back home. Which is whatever, but... they chose their lifestyle? They could have picked anything else."

He gave pause, winking at Veaya with a smirk. "You said half an hour, right?"
