Personal History | At a young age, Elyssa was bright, her parents were both scientists. She had a sister approximately 6 years older than her that she saw as her protector. At 6 years old the unthinkable happened, whilst landed on a remote planet surveying a deep space stellar phenomenon, the Kala'myr science vessel was attacked and boarded by a borg cube, leading to the assimilation of its entire complement including Elyssa. The ship was considered lost and memorials were held. Elyssa's sister was involved in the search until it was called off and later went on to join the Bajoran security forces. Eight years went by until a Starfleet vessel happened upon the Borg cube as it rested from battle with an attacker that was never identified. The cube was badly damaged and 90% of the drone complement was lost. A boarding team gathered much information before being repelled by the growing number of repaired drones. The starship, the USS Schrödinger had to fight its way out and a boarding attempt was made by the board. In the end, Starfleet prevailed and the Borg was destroyed. Several disabled drones were captured and taken for further study. On the journey back to the science outpost, a drone designated six of twelve began to repair and reactivate. She was subdued and now shown to be alive, the medics and engineers went about the process of liberation. They were successful and inside the Borg technology, they found a scared young Bajoran teenager named Elyssa. She was 14. In the next two years, she undertook many psychiatric evaluations and reintegration programs, adapting to her federation reassimilation quite well despite her recurrent nightmares. She impressed her coaches with her aptitude and eventually at 16 joined the Starfleet Academy Science Officer program. She struggled to make friends as she found a lot of the social scene unnatural but got there in the end and graduated with honours. At the age of 20, she was assigned to the USS Neills Bohr as second Science officer. She served well but after a year, her anxiety and near misses with failing psych evaluations eventually led her chief science officer to recommend her, with glowing compliments, to a planet-based posting. This timed quite well for the Haumea Outpost who had been seeking a chief science officer and the now lieutenant was approached to take the position on a provisional basis owing to her technically short amount of active experience, but excellent performance reviews. |
