Physical Description | Of average height and build, Misaki holds herself rigorously to starfleet regulations in matters of health and physical training. Eyes as black as a Betazoids, dark skin and barely a millimeter of black hair or two, if any, complete the picture. Rarely will one see the sleeves of her uniform covering her forearms, giving her the perpetual look of someone who’s about to get to work. When off duty she prefers simple dresses or a variety of comfortable clothes. They vary greatly in style and textures, most being experiments of some type or another. Jewelry is rarely worn, and make-up, when worn, is kept to a bare minimum. |

General Overview | Misaki is a colonist Being born and raised in a fringe colony meant things didn't always go according to plan. Often, they had to do without many of the luxuries afforded to the core worlds. Often, they had to improvise with what they had. Often, they also had to come together in order to make it through. Misaki is simple in her needs, she has good improvisational skills, and a strong sense of community. Misaki is a farmer Life on a farm is not easy, but very rewarding. Self reliance is key, as one must not only know how to make things grow or care for animals, but also operate and repair the machinery or build and repair your own structures. Her family extended this to clothing and shoes. Misaki knows quite a many things most people would consider redundant, what with the prevalence of replicators and food substitutes. She also prefers things she’s made herself as it feels more ‘real’ to her. She is hardworking, self reliant, yet unafraid to ask for help. Misaki is a believer Whether it’s belief in the Spirits, or belief in ideals greater than her, or her simple belief in people, belief and the willingness to act accordly, is a driving factor of her person. She believes in the strong unifying factors of the Federation. She believes in the learning process that accompanies a new culture. She believes in herself. Misaki is a doctor. Doctor’s wield scalpels. She likes to fix things, and people. It’s partially about the challenge, partially about the helping, partially because she’s good at it. In any case, she cares. She cares about her patients health and wellbeing, as well as the effect it has on everyone around. The oath required of all Starfleet Doctors prohibits them from using their knowledge to cause harm. Where many others extend that to a more generalised pacifism, not so with Misaki. Put her home, students or patients in danger and you will face a ferocious adversary. She shies not from conflict, something she may have taken after her siblings. In the end, She is a tender caretaker with sharp edges. Misaki is a teacher Partially natural talent, partially the requirements of her upbringing and training, she loves to teach others that which she knows. Whether it be medicine, mathematics, or how to lace your shoes, she seems to relish every moment she can teach anything to anyone. While it is partially out of a sense of responsibility, it’s mostly out of a sense of real enjoyment to see light clink in someone's eyes. She is a patient and kind mentor, with a sly sense of humor. Misaki is of a mixed heritage Miska is part Human, part Skagaran. Her physiology seems to indicate her Human side is more predominant, but she really couldn’t care much about it other than on a medical level. What she does care for, is the extended knowledge and awareness it has afforded her. People screw up. They shouldn’t be made ot answer for their progenitors actions. Take people as they come. Explore unknown cultures and beliefs. Misaki embraces differences for the opportunities they represent, and understands the need for forgiveness and acceptance. |

Hobbies & Interests | Misaki enjoys working machines and electronics just about as much as she loves animals and people. Much of her off hours are spent learning how to fix things or the people who wield the ‘things’. |
Personal History | Misaki was born and raised on a communal farmstead of Lewistown, on the Human - Skagaran colony of North Star, in what once used to be the Delphic Expanse. Farming techniques, animal husbandry, structural and equipment maintenance and repair as well as subsistence training were the lessons she was taught by her extended family. At 8, she could sew a simple dress and repair her own shoes. At 12, she could shoot a moving target at a hundred yards, most of the time. By the age of 15 she could maintain and repair most of the equipment they owned and operated. Growing up she had a fondness for animals that rivaled only her fondness of machines. For the longest time she couldn’t decide whether she wanted to become a veterinarian or a mechanic. A series of natural disasters coupled with a virulent disease hit her world in 2365. Many died, harvests were lost, structures destroyed. Thankfully starfleet stepped in quite rapidly, finding a cure for the disease before it really got out of hand, and bringing enough supplies and relief help to ensure they would not suffer from the events more than they already had. This triggered something in Misaki. A desire to help the greater community her own was part of. The following year she applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted. For a few years following her resignation, she became a teacher and doctor for a newly formed community on her homeworld. She married, had a child, grew happy. Those years brought her a peace she had forgotten somewhere along the way and helped her remember why she had joined the fleet all those years ago. The sense of community, the feeling of being useful, of being part of something great. Gently, gradually, she regained those elements of herself she had forgotten, lost, or otherwise shut out. She was happy, until she lost her child in an accident. Her marriage did not survive the event. |

Service Record | Starfleet Academy The academy was a very difficult period of her life. The adaptation to life in such a technology rich environment was both humbling and inspiring. The academic structure itself proved to be the difficulty. Being used a less regulated learning regimen, this aspect of academy life had her struggling daily to adjust and fit. It became so bad the career officer assigned her case even suggested she should consider changing to a less restrictive educational path. In other words, quit. That sentiment did not resonate well with her. So she did what she had been taught to do all her life. She turned to those around her for tips, tricks, advice and help. It paid off big time. By the end of the year her grades were high enough that she could continue. The following years were still difficult, but much more manageable. Hard work, discipline and complete faith in her own abilities led her down the road to success. She made a few friends, some with whom she still exchanges video or text messages with on a semi-regular basis. Starfleet Medical Thanks to her hard work and dedication in previous years, adjusting to the high demands of Starfleet Medical wasn’t as difficult as she expected. While it still required quite the adjustment, she found it much easier now that she understood the structure. What she couldn’t follow was the even higher competitive nature of those around her. She had thought Starfleet Academy to be much too confrontational as an overall experience. This was worse. The same determination and faith that had pushed her through the Academy also served her well here. She didn’t attract attention, neither scoring very high or low. Her answers were straightforward, intelligent and well thought out, but they rarely seemed extraordinary or spectacular. Perhaps it simply wasn’t in her to seek out such attentions, or perhaps she simply wasn’t as impressive as some. In any case she graduated with most of her class and moved on to her internship on Unity Station. Unfortunately, it was cut short when war broke out against the Dominion. Starfleet needed everyone they could have out there saving lives, not treating people in the safe zones. Career years Her career started with a bang. Multiple bangs actual. Those of grenades and mortar fire. For two years she was sent from battleground to battleground, pushing her beyond limits she couldn’t fathom. She saved many, even if some of them went on to die later. While this was far from why she’d joined, she understood the need, her desire to be useful overwhelming her fears and anxieties. At its end, she was transferred to the USS Sutherland to act as physician, where she spent the next 6 years. These were good years. It gave her time to sort out the war, make room for new challenges and emotions. She made friends, worked hard, made a home for herself. Until one mission changed everything. Serizida Prime was home to a near warp species under surveillance by the Federation council as a possible prospect in the near future. Something went wrong and the Sutherland was sent to retrieve Starfleet personnel on the planet. A worldwide plague spread throughout the population, killing very rapidly. With great difficulty they retrieved their people, some of them already dead. Misaki argued for interference despite the Prime Directive, but was rebuked. When evidence was found of offworld involvement, she renewed her argument with the Captain, to no avail. The mission continued and came to a close with a very confused and frustrated doctor. After a few weeks, she requested a leave of absence and returned home to think. Three months in, she resigned her commission. Following the destruction of Romulus, Misaki offered to reactivate her commission to help with the crisis. With the chaos of the situation and the high demand for medical help on temporary and makeshift relief centers, Misaki saw her offer accepted with enthusiasm. For nearly 6 years she worked without stop in a variety of Romulan relocation camps, treating people that came through, trying her best to instill some hope and goodwill in as many as she could. Slowly, things calmed down, and the increased requirements for medical personnel diminished. She was offered the opportunity to either continue and be transferred to a more permanent position, or return to civilian life. She accepted the former and was sent to Unity station where her internship had been cut short in her Academy days, and spent the next three years helping graduating med students get a feel for the actual job. She found this to be very rewarding, as it gave her the opportunity to teach and heal at the same time. It was in passing that she heard of Haumea from officers on leave on the station. They’d briefly been assigned there to assist the Corp of Engineers, but had been transferred off planet soon after, following some misunderstanding with the locals. For a reason she couldn’t really explain it gnawed at her until she looked it up, and then it gnawed at her until she checked the openings. She applied for a transfer, and something inside her felt just right. 2366 Enlisted in Starfleet Academy 2370 Graduated Starfleet Academy and entered Starfleet Medical 2373 Graduated Starfleet Medical and took internship on Unity Station. 2373 Internship cancelled, relocated to war front. 2375 Transferred to USS Sutherland as ACMO. 2379 Made CMO aboard the USS Sutherland. 2381 Resigns. 2387 Reinstated and assigned to Romulan relocation camps. 2393 Transferred to Unity Station to serve as Starfleet Medical resident teacher. 2396 Transferred to Haumea Colony. |
